SEND Information

SEND at Stoneydown Park Primary

At Stoneydown Park Primary School, we hold high expectations for all our pupils, believing that each child has the potential to strive for excellence and achieve their best. We are committed to providing the best support to help every student reach their potential, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities needed to succeed.

With a team of strong and dedicated staff, we work together to create an environment where every pupil feels inspired and empowered. Our approach is focused on helping students become independent learners, building their confidence and resilience along the way.

We understand that every child is unique, and we are passionate about providing tailored support for our pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they are given the opportunity to thrive in all aspects of their education.

  • We are committed to providing a secure and nurturing environment where children are motivated, engaged, and excited to learn and contribute.
  • Our focus is on helping children become self-disciplined, confident, adaptable, and build strong self-esteem.
  • We aim to create a compassionate, inclusive community where every individual is valued and where we honour the diverse needs, cultures, and beliefs of everyone, both within and beyond the school.
  • We strive to align tasks and resources with each child's unique abilities, ensuring they are intellectually, physically, and socially challenged.
  • Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, with a strong emphasis on developing diverse learning skills.
  • We encourage a supportive environment where teachers, non-teaching staff, governors, parents, carers, and children work collaboratively.

If you have any SEND concerns about your child, please contact the school via: SEND@stoneydownpark.waltham.sch.uk

We use the graduated approach to assess, plan, do and review our SEND provision for your children.

How is support for SEND pupils organised? The tiered approach.

Stoneydown SEND Frequently Asked Questions

I am concerned that my child cannot concentrate and may have SEND needs.  What should I do?

Initial conversations should happen with your child’s class teacher. If they share your concerns, please contact the school via: SEND@stoneydownpark.waltham.sch.uk The school will then arrange a meeting with the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to discuss your child’s needs.

What expertise and training do the staff who support SEND pupils have?

All staff are trained regularly by the school SENDCo, as well as external specialists such as the Speech and Language Therapist, ADHD foundation and Flourish (Waltham Forest SEND outreach).

How do I get my child added to the SEND register?

There are two ways for this to happen. Either parents or the school can suggest a child is added to the SEND register. The school SENDCo will meet with parents and then add the child with their permission. Being on the SEND register is beneficial to SEND pupils as it ensures that the school consistently monitors their progress and SEND needs. If a child has made excellent progress and caught up with their peers, they may also be removed from the SEND register in the same way.

My child has a SEND diagnosis. Does this mean that they will automatically get an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)?

Not necessarily. Some children are functioning within normal academic ranges for their age and do not need any extra support with their education, health or care. They would therefore not require an EHCP.

If my child has an EHCP, does this mean they receive their own teaching assistant?

EHCPs bring funding into the school that is attached to the child it has been written for. This funding is often only half of the cost of a teaching assistant, so the school is not able to allocate on a 1:1 basis. All children with EHCPs will receive additional support e.g. small group interventions, part time 1:1 support or specialist sessions. Our aim is to foster independent learning for all our pupils, so we want to avoid an over reliance on adult support, where possible.

How is the curriculum matched to the pupil's needs? How does the school support children that need extra help?

Stoneydown’s Universal Offer LINK ensures that children are well catered for in the classroom. Quality first teaching, differentiation and interventions support all pupils. Children with additional needs will receive Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), which are adapted termly in meetings between class teachers, SENDCo and SLT.

Who should parents and carers contact if they have a complaint about the SEND provision in the school?

Complaints should be sent to the Headteacher. The Complaints Policy can be found on the school website.
