Pre-Compulsory School Age Admissions
The guidance on Pre-Compulsory School Age Admissions is as follows:
The School Admissions Code states as follows regarding part time places for reception children:
2.17 Admission authorities must provide for the admission of all children in the September following their fourth birthday. The authority must make it clear in their arrangements that where they have offered a child a place at a school:
- a) that child is entitled to a full-time place in the September following their fourth birthday;
- b) the child’s parents can defer the date their child is admitted to the school until later in the school year but not beyond the point at which they reach compulsory school age and not beyond the beginning of the final term of the school year for which it was made; and
- c) where the parents wish, children may attend part-time until later in the school year but not beyond the point at which they reach compulsory school age.
The Department for Education document ‘Working together to improve school attendance’, states as follows:
Under compulsory school age
- In cases where a parent wishes their child to begin school on a part-time basis in line with the school admissions code, schools maintained by a local authority and special schools not maintained by a local authority may give leave of absence for sessions the pupil is not expected to attend. This must be agreed between the school and the parent they normally live with and must end at the point at which the pupil reaches compulsory school age. The times and dates when the pupil is expected to attend the school must be agreed by the school and the parent with whom the pupil normally lives with.
Once you receive your place, please do get in touch at the earliest opportunity to discuss any transition requests, including queries about pre-compulsory school age attendance. Requests after 15th June will not be accepted.

Secondary Transfer
Spending time to find out about secondary schools is really important. Every year in the Autumn Term, we hold meetings for Year 6 parents about how to apply for a secondary school place. It is highly recommended that you attend these meetings and open sessions at any secondary school that you are considering for your child.
Secondary School Application Workshop- We also offer 1 to 1 workshops to assist parents in completing the online application forms. Please contact the school office for more details.
