Heron

Teachers:  Hilary Ebden & Claire Foster (Teach First)

We are great at building outside and making obstacle courses, towers and other structures using different materials.

We had plenty of fun in our Builders' Yard role-play area, where we talked about the important job builders do. We made sure we put on our protective clothing before getting out the spanners, hammers and saws.

The Builders Yard  turned into a Pirate Ship! We walked the plank, drew treasure maps, battled with sharks and protected our treasure.

We enjoyed learning about 3D shapes and their properties and making our own using the connector straws.

We took part in a circus workshop and experimented with different ways of moving and dancing. We danced, hopped, juggled, bounced, slithered, crept, crawled, skipped and froze like statues. Our circus skills were so fantastic that we brought the smile back to the sad clown’s face!

We had a trip to Walthamstow Fire Station with our carers to find out about fire safety. We got to spray water using an enormous hose, and explore the fire engine and all of its special equipment. Some of us even tried sliding down the pole! We listened carefully to the fire-fighters who explained why we need smoke alarms in our homes and we asked lots of questions about the important work the fire-fighters do.

At the start of the year, we loved making friends with all the Reception children. We enjoyed making our own pictures, exploring the outside area and looking at our bird, the heron. Her name is Hajira.
