In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We have worked hard to master the column method for both addition and subtraction and have applied our skills to real life through word problems. As well as this, we have worked through a variety of calculation methods such as the bar model, number lines and partitioning.

In English we have been working on our technique for writing explanation texts and biographies. We learnt to use conjunctions, prepositions, adverbs and pronouns to make our writing more sophisticated and interesting. Linking to our topic work, we published a biography about Jesse Owens and his achievements.

In art we have been looking at motion and experimenting with different techniques which can be used to show movement. We sketched a mannequin in a variety of positions focusing on ways to achieve an illusion of movement through a still picture. Some of our techniques included charcoal smudging and repeated patterns.

Our topic work was based around Jesse Owens and his achievements as an athlete. We discussed the significance of Jesse’s achievements and how they were linked to the civil rights movement. Our class produced some amazing homework projects based around this theme.

In science this half term, we have been learning about the human body. We wrote a hypothesis for an experiment which tested whether the length of our legs effected how far we could jump; we then carried this experiment out.
