Stoneydown Park Primary is a school in Walthamstow that offers a rich and creative curriculum to all our pupils with a strong emphasis on the arts. All our pupils have the opportunity to explore a range of art media including sculpture, animation, silk-screen and ceramics, to visit galleries, to perform in drama and musical performances, to have access to ‘real’ instruments, to be taught by specialists, to work alongside practising artists (including parents) and to develop and express their own ideas.
To further enhance the work we do in the arts, we are seeking to create a dedicated building for specialist teaching in music and visual arts, so that, as the school expands, we can maintain the capacity to provide exciting arts experiences for our pupils and to attract creative people to work with us.
Our Artspace will also provide a space that will enable the local community to be involved with the arts, and our ideas for the design of the 2-story building, with easy access from the Blackhorse Road side of the site, will enable us to share our facilities, for example, through offering ceramics workshops (we already have a full-sized kiln).
We are proud of the work we do at Stoneydown in working with our parents and community so that our pupils can benefit from a rounded and rich curriculum. We now aim to raise the profile of the school as a centre of excellence for the arts, and to work in partnership with local arts organisations, our local secondary school Willowfield and to be an active part of Walthamstow becoming London’s ‘Borough of Culture’.
Although we are rich in ambition, and have an amazing team determined to help us fulfil those ambitions, our budget is tight. We are therefore looking at a variety of ways to fund-raise to make sure that our aims become a reality. We are grateful for any support in helping us to promote our Artspace plans and in helping us fundraise towards getting it built.
